Alexis Peña

Dr. Alexis Peña

Dr. Alexis Peña recently completed her Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University in May 2023. She has over 10 years of experience in tissue engineering and biomaterials research in institutions in the U.S. and the U.K. At Johns Hopkins, her research focused on the translation of regenerative immunotherapies for knee osteoarthritis and breast tissue reconstruction in women’s health. She has co-authored 14 publications spanning regenerative medicine strategies and in vitro cell platforms to ultimately provide regenerative medicine solutions. 

Dr. Peña is the co-founder of Good Fibes, an early-stage biotech start-up whose mission is to enable a circular textile economy through material innovation. She is applying her expertise in manufacturing and tissue engineering strategies to advance Good Fibes’ research and development. 

Her North Star is improving the quality of life and to that aim, is exploring innovating in areas related to climate technology, biomedical, food, and behavioral lifestyle applications of her expertise. She writes a reader-supported substack newsletter, de nuevo, a collection of thoughts and curiosities about nutrition, mindfulness, sustainability, community, and beautiful experiences.
